Hatha Yoga is a type of yoga that uses physical postures or positions called asanas (ah-SA-nahs) to achieve health benefits. Each asana is held while you focus on the sensations in your body. You will do standing and balancing poses, twists, and forward and backbends, as well as relaxation and breathing techniques. Yoga stretches and strengthens every muscle, relieves tension and stimulates all of your glands and organs. It increases your breath capacity and helps the body get rid of toxins. Yoga also quiets the mind, balances the emotions, and develops the power of concentration. By practicing Hatha Yoga poses, you will increase your flexibility, strength, stamina and balance. Stress is also released and concentration is often improved. Many students experience some of these benefits after only one class; but with regular practice the benefits can be astonishing. YOGA CLASSES ARE FUN AND VARIED Waverly's Hatha Yoga classes are multi-level, from beginning to intermediate, with an emphasis on overall flexibility and strength, paying close attention to safety and low impact.
