Yoga is a valuable, life-affirming practice, utilizing the breath, good posture and a variety of poses.

Hatha Yoga is a type of yoga that uses physical postures or positions called asanas (ah-SA-nahs) to achieve health benefits. Each asana is held while you focus on the sensations in your body. You will do standing and balancing poses, twists, and forward and backbends, as well as relaxation and breathing techniques.

Yoga stretches and strengthens every muscle, relieves tension and stimulates all of your glands and organs. It increases your breath capacity and helps the body get rid of toxins. Yoga also quiets the mind, balances the emotions, and develops the power of concentration.

By practicing Hatha Yoga poses, you will increase your flexibility, strength, stamina and balance. Stress is also released and concentration is often improved. Many students experience some of these benefits after only one class; but with regular practice the benefits can be astonishing.

Yoga classes are an enjoyable way to learn yoga and to stay motivated to an on-going practice. You can choose from individual or group instruction. Classes are structured to include warm-ups, standing and floor poses, and relaxation.

Waverly's Hatha Yoga classes are multi-level, from beginning to intermediate, with an emphasis on overall flexibility and strength, paying close attention to safety and low impact. There will also be theme classes where you will focus on certain areas. The goal is to keep yoga interesting and fun while improving wellness.

Yoga classes at your facility can save travel time, increase fitness, and improve your attitude.

Yoga gives a sense of renewal and greater productivity at work, and it is a great way to unwind or feel invigorated at home.

Here are some helpful reminders for yoga class:
• Please bring a yoga mat to class, and perhaps a towel or blanket.
• Wear loose comfortable clothes so you can move easily.
• Try to have an empty stomach before class.
• The class will be taught barefoot.
• Do the best you can in class and don't overdo it.
• Always go at your own pace and respect the limits of your body.

Yoga can be done at any age and has become extremely popular in the US: the practice boasts 20 million followers, more tripling the number of people practicing in 1994 (6 million).

Most practitioners are women - about 80% - and many students come for the spiritual aspects of yoga and for the whole-body approach to fitness.

Children and adults love yoga. Athletes and couch potatoes love yoga. Executives and parents love yoga. Men and women love yoga.

Yoga keeps your mind and body young, and makes you feel good. Regular practice of yoga is very satisfying and refreshing.

As you live your practice, you grow in awareness and well-being. And when you’re healthy, your world brightens. Yoga is a gift!

You can learn to love yoga, too, and enjoy the benefits of yoga at your facility. Be happier and more peaceful. Make it happen today!

Yoga is the practice of quieting the mind. — Patanjal

Tao Te Ching, verse 16

Allow the heart to empty itself of all turmoil!
Retrieve the utter tranquility of mind
from which you issued.

Although all forms are dynamic,
and we all grow and transform,
each of us is compelled to return to our root.
Our root is quietude.

To fully return to our root is to be enlightened.
Never to experience tranquility is to act blindly,
a sure path to disaster.

To know tranquility is to embrace all.
To embrace all is to be just.
Justice is the foundation for wholeness.
Wholeness is the Great Integrity.
The Great Integrity is the infinite fulfilling itself.
